My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Volume 1 This is a list of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic issues. Using a nonlinear storytelling style that is bound to make you go "Whoa" at least once, it's a seriously great experience whether you're a fan of Visual Novels or not.See also: My Little Pony (IDW Publishing) § Friendship Is Magic (November 2012–October 2021) It's packed with ideas (from fantasy worldbuilding to comedy to drama and romantic hijinks), with great voice acting and art, plus some of the most spectacular stuff I've seen a Ren'Py game do in terms of visuals, animation and structure. Its unique setting based on historical medierval Islamic Spain, with music and visuals to match, contributes to a great atmosphere that I hadn't seen in a game before. There's a great amount of work put into the design of the world and its characters, all wrapped in a certain amount of mystery – Who's the narrator? What made the Hayseed Knight a knight? What's 's secret? – and the reason I'm being stingy with the details is because unraveling the mystery is a big part of the experience. Though given how much of a passion project this is for the dev, I have no doubts that the remaining chapters will be finished eventually. ![]() The only downsides to the game right now are its very linear visual novel gameplay structure and the fact that it consists of 3 chapters, with one more chapter and an epilogue to be released for free in the future. It doesn’t hurt that it looks and sounds amazing, either, with animated high-quality art and professional-level voice acting throughout. ![]() It’s genuinely funny, thoughtful and thoroughly emotionally engaging. From the sometimes surprisingly complex characters and the highly detailed setting inspired by historical Al-Andalus (medieval Spain) to the nonlinear storytelling structure and the way the game weaves themes of gender identity and racism into the plot, The Hayseed Knight is a densely-packed narrative experience which can be enjoyed on many different levels. The Hayseed Knight presents itself first and foremost as a “blend of mystery, comedy and romance”, but once you dig a little deeper, you start The Hayseed Knight presents itself first and foremost as a “blend of mystery, comedy and romance”, but once you dig a little deeper, you start to realise that it’s far from being just your average romantic comedy.
